Early interest in horseshoes:  My early interest in horseshoes began when I received a set of horseshoes for my 11th birthday. This interest continued through my high school years and it wasn’t until after I moved to Columbus, Ohio that I learned about and became involved with organized horseshoes.

Local level contributions:  I have been a member of the Whetstone HC for over 30 years and during that time have served in all offices at one time or another, as league and tournament director for many years, was co-author of the WHC bylaws and special league rules, and helped our club in hosting the World Tournament in 1992.

State level contributions:  With more available time since my early retirement in 1994, I am currently serving as the OHPA 3rd vice president, chairman of the Hall of Fame committee, and chairman of the Bylaws revision committee. I contribute articles and a regular column to our Ohio Horseshoe Newsletter, and am also the Ohio Regional Director of tournaments.

National level contributions/recognition:  I attended my first World Tournament at Statesville, NC in 1983 and since then have attended all World Tournaments but three. In recent years, and after becoming Regional Director, I have helped with WT scorekeeping, shoe checks, and have served as a judge in all the various divisions.  I have a special interest in writing and have developed the Medical Exemption forms (originally for Ohio pitchers) that have since been adopted by the NHPA. I have also revised the NHPA Court Sanction form and am currently serving on the NHPA Rules re-write committee. In 2002 I was recognized and honored as the NHPA Regional Director of the year.

Work and family:  In 1994 I retired from teaching biology after nearly 30 years in the classroom. I am very proud of the fact that my entire family has participated in organized horseshoes. While our children were growing up, my wife and I always planned our summer vacations around the World Tournament and for four of those years, all of us competed. Currently, my wife and I, along with our daughters, are still enjoying this sport.

Request for support:  I hope you will agree that my interest, experience, and contributions to horseshoes, at all levels, qualifies me to serve you in this new position, and I respectfully ask for your vote at the 2005 convention.
